Wicked Ahaz and Number 717
Wicked King Ahaz, in 717 B.C., ruled over the Kingdom of Judah. His wickedness was such that he not only paid homage to a variety of pagan deities, he also committed the unspeakable act of burning his children alive as a sacrifice to the pagan god Moloch (2Kings 16:1 - 4, 2Chronicles 28:2 - 4)!
Ahaz's sinful behavior caught up with him when, around 732 B.C., God allowed Israel's king to kill 120,000 of Judah's troops in a single day (2Chronicles 28:5 - 6)! The king, sadly, was not deterred as he continued to erect places throughout Judah, including in Jerusalem, where pagan gods could be worshipped (2Chronicles 28:24 - 25). Ahaz's rule of evil finally ended in 715 B.C.
