Meaning of Numbers: The Number 440
The possible meaning of the number 440 is derived primarily from the occurrence of certain words in the Bible's original languages.
According to Number in Scripture by E.W. Bullinger, the Hebrew Gematria of the word "Naphish," the name of one of Ishmael's twelve sons (Genesis 25:15), is 440 (50 + 80 + 10 + 300). Ishmael was a son of the Biblical patriarch Abraham through his wife's maidservant named Hagar.
And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar . . . Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah (Genesis 25:13, 15, KJV).
