Jesus the Chief Cornerstone
The Stone which the builders rejected has become the Head Stone of the corner (Psalm 118:22).
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures, 'The Stone that the builders rejected, this has become the head of the corner. This was from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes'? . . ." (Matthew 21:42, see also 1Peter 2:4 - 7).
Declared the Son of God
I will declare the decree of the Lord. He has said to Me, "You are My Son; this day I have begotten You . . ." (Psalm 2:7).
And lo, a voice from heaven said, "This is My Son, the Beloved, in Whom I have great delight." (Matthew 3:17).
Ministry of Jesus Begins in Galilee
He afflicted the land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time He will glorify the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; they who dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them the light has shined (Isaiah 9:1 - 2).
And after leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is on the seaside, on the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim; That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet Isaiah . . . (Matthew 4:13 - 14).
Broken Hearted Healed, Liberty Proclaimed
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me because the Lord has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound (Isaiah 61:1).
And there was given Him the book of the prophet Isaiah; and when He had unrolled the scroll, He found the place where it was written, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me; for this reason, He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor . . ." Then He began to say to them, "Today, this scripture is being fulfilled in your ears" (Luke 4:17 - 18, 21).
Order of Melchizedek Ministry
The Lord has sworn and will not repent, "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek" (Psalm 110:4).
Even as He also says in another place, "You (Jesus) are a Priest forever according to the order of Melchisedec (Melchizedek)" (Hebrews 5:6).
Rejected and Despised
He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our faces from Him, He was despised, and we esteemed Him not (Isaiah 53:3).
Although He had done so many miracles in their presence, they did not believe in Him, so that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled who said, "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" (John 12:37 - 38, see also 1:11).
Deaf and Blind Healed
And in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and darkness (Isaiah 29:18, see also 35:5).
Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear . . ." (Matthew 11:4 - 5, see also Mark 7:37).
The Good Shepherd
He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those with young (Isaiah 40:10, see also Ezekiel 34:23 - 24).
I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep (John 10:11, see also 1Peter 2:25).
Jesus the Meek Servant
He shall not cry out, nor lift up, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He shall not break, and a smoking wick He shall not quench; in truth He shall bring forth justice (Isaiah 42:2 - 3).
Behold My Servant, Whom I have chosen; My Beloved, in Whom My soul has found delight. I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall declare judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not strive nor cry out, neither shall anyone hear His voice in the streets . . . (Matthew 12:18 - 19, see also Philippians 2:7).
Teaching in Parables
Give ear, O my people, to my law; incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable; I will speak dark sayings of old (Psalm 78:1 - 2).
Jesus spoke all these things to the multitudes in parables, and without a parable He did not speak to them; so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world" (Matthew 13:34 - 35).
Jesus Offers New Covenant
"Behold, the days come," says the Lord, "that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah . . ." (Jeremiah 31:31, see also verses 32 - 34).
And He took the cup; and after giving thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "All of you drink of it; For this is My blood, the blood of the New Covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins . . ." (Matthew 26:27 - 28, see also Hebrews 8:8 - 12).
Offended Over Jesus
And He shall be a sanctuary for you - but for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, and for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many among them shall stumble and fall and be broken, and be snared, and be taken (Isaiah 8:14 - 15).
Exactly as it is written: "Behold, I place in Sion (Zion) a Stone of stumbling and a Rock of offense, but everyone who believes in Him shall not be ashamed" (Romans 9:33).
Jesus' Ministry Hated
Let not those who are my enemies without cause rejoice over me; let not those who hate me wink the eye (Psalm 35:19).
If I had not done among them the works that no other man has done, they would not have had sin; but now they have both seen and hated both Me and My Father. But this has happened so that the saying might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.' (John 15:24 - 25).
