Vashti was the beautiful Persian queen of King Xerxes (Ahasuerus). At a state banquet Xerxes, who was no doubt a bit drunk, commanded her to parade her beauty before his male guests. After she refused to do so, the king became furious and divorced her. His search for another queen ultimately led to the rise of Esther.
